Prayers for the Persecuted Christians and Church in the World

October 14th - October 19th

Tuesday October 14, 2014

Loving God,

You reveal Yourself in the friendship and love among people. We pray today especially for our brothers and sisters of the various Church communities in Iraq. May they harvest the fruits of their great faith and trust in You, and distribute these blessings to all their fellow citizens.

We ask You this through the intercession of St. Callistus, martyr, through Christ our Lord.

God our Father,

Your good deeds cannot be outdone; Your saving hand reaches out to those in dire straits. We pray for all the people in Iraq who are refugees—especially the children. May they find rest, shelter, protection and ample food and water. Grant that through our prayers we may grow in love for You and our fellow men and women.

We ask You this through the intercession of St. Teresa of Avila, through Christ our Lord.

Thursday October 16, 2014

God, our Creator,

You are the true source of peace and justice. We pray today for all those in positions of responsibility in Iraq. Grant that they are always mindful of the wellbeing of their countrymen and women. Grant that ensure that there is ample food and good care for all those in need. Grant that they provide shelter for all, without discrimination. Open their heart for Your Good News, so that may grow in love for You and for their fellow citizens.

Through Christ our Lord.

Friday October 17, 2014

Loving God,

Your Son Jesus Christ is the way and the truth and the life. He is our Savior and the gate to life in heaven. We thank You for His gift of self on the cross, prompted by love. We pray You this Friday for peace and freedom for all those in Iraq who suffer along with Him.

We ask You this through the intercession of St. Ignatius of Antioch, martyr, through Christ our Lord.

Saturday October 18, 2014

God of liberation,

You led your people out of their bondage by the Pharoah to the land of freedom. We pray today for all the people who are imprisoned because of their faith in Your Son. We pray that they may be an example of steadfastness and faithfulness to us. May their faith feed ours and may their suffering grow our faith. Grant them the strength they need to carry their cross.

We ask You this through St. Luke, evangelist, through Christ our Lord.

Sunday October 19, 2014

Almighty and eternal God,

You raised Your Son Jesus from the dead to eternal life at Your right-hand side. Grant that we, on this first day of the week, may take the meaning of His suffering to heart, and may we take part in His resurrection and glory. We thank that we are able to profess our faith in Him in freedom and that we are able to celebrate His resurrection in complete liberty.

Through Christ our Lord.
