Prayers for the Persecuted Christians and Church in the World

April 14th - April 20th

Monday April 14, 2014
Lord our God,
You are a God who revealed Your love for all people in Jesus the Messiah.  This Holy Week, we remember in our prayers our brothers and sisters all around the world. We ask You for Your overflowing blessing for them, as well as protection in troubled times. We pray that the eyes of this world’s rulers may be opened for the dignity of each human being.
Through Christ our Lord.

Tuesday April 15, 2014
Merciful God,
You reveal Yourself in the friendship and love among people. We pray for our brothers and sisters across the world. May they harvest the fruit this Holy Week of the saving work of your Son and may they distribute it to one another and all people.
We ask You this through Christ our Lord.

Wednesday April 16, 2014
God of forgiveness,
Your good deeds cannot be outdone; Your mercy is widely known. We pray this Holy Week for people everywhere who are on the run—especially the children.  Grant that they may find rest, shelter, protection and sufficient food and water. Grant that, on the way to Easter, they may grow in love for You and for their fellows.
Through Christ our Lord.

Holy Thursday April 17, 2014
Living God,
Your Son Jesus the Christ washed the feet of His disciples like a servant. Grant that we may follow His example and treat our fellows with humility and with love. We want to thank You for all the men and women who—until death—proclaimed their faith in Your Son in word and deed. We pray for all those who today are persecuted because of their faith in Jesus Christ. We ask You: grant them patience, courage and hope.
We ask You this through Christ our Lord.

Good Friday April 18, 2014
Almighty and eternal God,
In Your Son Jesus Christ You revealed Your glory to all peoples. We ask you: guard the work of Your mercy and grant that the Church, spread over all the earth, remain steadfast in her confession of Your Name.
Through Christ our Lord.

Holy Saturday April 19, 2014
God of liberation,
Your Son came down from heaven to darkest places of human existence in order to bring Your Word of liberation there. We pray today for all those who have no hope, who are afraid, who are paralyzed. Grant them rest and security to all refugees. Grant care and love to those who are being neglected.
Through Christ our Lord.

Easter Sunday April 20, 2014
God of love,
You raised Your Son Jesus Christ from the dead! On this very first Sunday we want to thank you with joy and gratitude for the gift of our life. We ask that during the feast of Easter we become ever more aware of what our task in the world is. We pray for all those who hunger for Your Message of freedom. Grant that we may proclaim Your Word of freedom and love to all our fellow men and women.
Through Christ our Lord.
