28 Priests from Kiribati Wish to Thank You for Your Mass Intentions

Success Story

"My priests and I cannot thank you enough for your great generosity, and so we ask God to bless you and reward you for this wonderful gift, which will be shared out equally among all our priests." These were the words of Bishop Paul Mea to thank ACN’s donors for their generosity in supporting his poor priests.Success Story

For many priests in many parts of the world, Mass stipends are the sole source of income they have to survive on. This is the case in Kiribati, also. This island nation in the Pacific comprises a string of islands, scattered across a vast area. Many of the 63,000 Catholics living here, who account for approximately half the population, live on these small and widely scattered islands. The priests have to make a long and difficult journeys between the islands in order to minister to the faithful.

Bishop Paul Mea wrote that although the people are very generous, they themselves are so poor that they are in no position to provide financial support for their priests. The inhabitants of these islands live by fishing and by producing copra, the dried coconut meat, or kernel, that is used to produce coconut oil. But as a result of climate change, the coconut palms are yielding fewer and fewer coconuts, while on these small islands with few inhabitants there is little to be earned by fishing, either.

As a result, the bishop turned to ACN with a request for Mass stipends for 28 of his priests. Thanks to the generosity of our benefactors, we were able to supply him with 2,800 Mass intentions on your behalf.  Your assistance is deeply appreciated.
