Help Provide a Roof for a New Church in Nicaragua

Nicaragua is one of the poorest countries in Latin America. The Church needs help to fulfill its mission there, especially as it continues to grow. In 2012, near the town of Boaco, a new parish was established, named after Pope Saint John Paul II. Over two thirds of the parish is rural, with 14 outstations. Roughly 70 percent of the area’s 20,000 people are Catholic.

The parish is lively, and even weekday Mass attendance is close to 50. There are three popular Sunday Masses and numerous pastoral activities for people of all ages. The number of faithful has grown dramatically, partly due to a population increase in Boaco.

A new church is currently being built to accommodate the growing number of Catholic faithful in Nicaragua. The parish leader, Father Miguel Angulo Rivas, is one of the most experienced priests in the Diocese of Granada. He wanted a major undertaking before retirement, so he volunteered to take over the parish and its demanding construction project. He is widely considered a model for other priests and the faithful in the diocese.

The project is well along, but help is now needed for the roof and the electrical wiring. Father Miguel has turned to ACN for help, so that the new church can be finished as soon as possible. We were happy to contribute $14,400.

Will you join us in giving to the Church in Nicaragua? We are sure Father Miguel and his grateful parishioners will remember you in their prayers.
