For the 20 elderly and infirm Sisters living in the Jeita convent Jeita today, there is no heating and in winter it can get extremely cold. This is not only hard to endure for these already frail Sisters but also scarcely inviting for any guests who may wish to stay. The congregation has therefore decided to install a central heating system, but the cost is too high for them alone and so they have turned to ACN for help.
Father Paul Gomes of the cathedral Parish of the Good Shepherd, to which Kolimnagar belongs, has turned to ACN with a request for help. The new church will be used not only for Holy Mass and other liturgical celebrations, but also for catechetical and other pastoral programs and gatherings aimed at helping the people to deepen their faith and live a truly Christian life.
In September 2017, vast areas of Cuba were struck by Hurricane Irma. The island was pounded by winds gusting up to 160 miles an hour, torrential rainfall, tidal surges with waves of up to 30 feet and widespread flooding. Many of the Catholic dioceses in the country have also suffered from this natural disaster, and many of the people have been forced to stand helpless at the sight of their damaged homes and churches.
Attacks against Christians are a regular occurrence in Pakistan today. Almost every priest in the country has at some time received anonymous threatening phone calls or letters. Even the bishops of the country receive threatening letters, demanding that they convert to Islam.
