Fund Pastoral Travel Costs for Priests in Russia

The Diocese of Saint Clement is in the city of Saratov in southern Russia, around 500 miles from Moscow. The local Catholic faithful are few in number at barely 20,000 and scattered across an area of nearly 550,000 square miles. They eagerly await the visits of priests.

But the priests must cover vast distances to minister to the faithful. This is fundamental to the survival of Catholicism in the region, since there cannot be sacraments without priests, and faith can fade over time, leading to a decrease in religious vocations, even fewer priests, and less effective pastoral care. A lack of vocations in the area means that most priests in the diocese come from abroad.

These pastoral journeys are essential but expensive. ACN has committed to subsidizing travel costs, so the Catholic faithful will not be left without priests. This support is ongoing, and this year, we are giving $17,800.
