Support Pastoral Summer Activities for Children and Young People in Egypt

As in other parts of the world, the children of Egypt look forward to the summer. In particular, there are 290 young people from the Coptic Catholic Eparchy of Alexandria who, from June to September, participate in summer programs run by the parish church of El-Khsou. The program offers a variety of activities and is open to young people of all ages, from primary school to university. Participants can deepen their understanding of the faith, gain a better knowledge of the Holy Scriptures, enjoy the companionship of their peers, and generally experience what it means to be a part of the universal Catholic Church. This knowledge and sense of community is especially important for young Christians in Egypt, where they normally see themselves as a tiny minority within society.

The joy on participants’ faces in pictures from previous years show that the program is a rousing success. Sadly, the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of all original plans for 2020, but organizers have creatively restructured the program so people can still benefit from it. Most activities will now take place online.

ACN has committed $5,100 to the summer program. Will you join us in supporting the youth of Egypt?

Aid to the Church in Need commits to invest your funds where they will have the greatest impact for the Church we serve. Funds donated to Aid to the Church in Need’s projects will be used towards the greatest need in our programs to help keep the Faith alive.

Devastation in beirut

“Beirut is a devastated city. It’s a war scene – there is destruction and desolation in all its streets, its districts and its houses.”
Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Bechara Boutros Rai.

The destruction caused by the 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate which exploded inside a warehouse was immediate, its impact intensely felt by the Christian quarter.
