“We understand your aid as a sign of solidarity and love for the poorest of the poor, and it is also a gesture that will give hope to these suffering brothers and sisters of ours and show them that they are not forgotten.”

March 13, 2017 was a tragic anniversary. Exactly 6 years earlier, the terrible war bFood Aid for 1,500 Refugee Families in Syriaegan that has since devastated Syria.  A little over a year later, 6.3 million people are refugees within their own country, while 13.5 million people are now dependent on humanitarian aid. This is roughly 2/3 of the population of the country. Some 5 million people are officially registered as refugees in neighboring countries. Many of the younger children have known nothing but war and exile from their homes.

The Melkite Catholic patriarchate in Damascus has asked us to help in providing food for close to 1500 refugee families living in rural areas around the capital Damascus. The idea is to provide basic necessities, such as milk for children, lentils, sugar, tea, oil canned goods and other basic necessities for the next three months. Fifteen volunteer helpers will distribute the food from three centers. The neediest families will be contacted individually, so that they know exactly where and when they can collect the food.

Father Maher Mansour, who is in charge of the project, writes to us: “It is so sad to see these families living in such pitiful conditions and robbed of their dignity, full of fear for today and for tomorrow – the adults and above all the children.”

“We understand your aid as a sign of solidarity and love for the poorest of the poor, and it is also a gesture that will give hope to these suffering brothers and sisters of ours and show them that they are not forgotten.”

We are helping with $180,100 – that is not quite $40 per family per month.

Will you give to provide food for 1,500 refugee families in Syria?
