A Car for the Little Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Ukraine

Last year, the Little Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary celebrated the 25th anniversary of their work in Kharkiv. The anniversary was a sad occasion, however, since this city, the second largest in Ukraine, is in the east of the country and has been caught up in the fighting since the start of the war. Rocket and missile attacks are a regular occurrence.

In happier times, the Sisters were occupied primarily in the cathedral parish. One of them was the organist and led the children’s choir and the adults‘ choir. They also ran a female students’ hostel and gave religious instruction to children, young people and adults, while one of the Sisters taught Christian ethics in school. They also supported the bishop in his work.

Now their work consists in caring for the people who have remained behind in Ukraine. The cathedral has become a relief center for all who need support. Food and other relief supplies are distributed here, but also spiritual consolation and comfort for the people.

Sister Liudmyla tells us, “Our presence in Kharkiv is crucial to the spiritual and moral support of the people, who have nowhere else to turn to. That is why we are there for them. We feel under permanent threat, but we are ready to stay on here and serve the people.”

The Sister added, “We give thanks to God the Father for giving us the courage, inspiration and the necessary graces to serve Him in our people here. We are also grateful to the Immaculate Heart of Mary for protecting us.”

The Sisters urgently need a car for their work, so that they can visit the most needy and provide them with basic necessities. They also need some form of transportation so that, if the situation deteriorates, they can rapidly evacuate the danger zone and bring themselves and others to safety.

We have promised $21,900 for a car, so that they continue in the present difficult situation to serve their people, who so desperately need this help.

Can you help these Little Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary purchase a car so they can better serve in this dangerous region of Ukraine?

We are sure they will gratefully remember you in their prayers.
