ACN’s last visit with Pope Benedict XVI

January 20th, 2019, Jan Probst, director of the Swiss office of Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) in visited Pope Benedict. It was the last time that an ACN representative met with him.

Mr. Probst gave this account:

“It is with deep gratitude and sadness that we bid farewell to Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI. In 2019, I had the honor of meeting the Pope Emeritus in person. It was an impressive encounter. Although physically weak, his mind was clear, and his charisma reflected holiness.

“For Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI it was crucial that Europe does not forget the persecuted Christians. He said, “I assure you that you and the whole ‘Aid to the Church in Need (ACN)’ are included in my prayers.”

Mr. Probst presented Benedict XVI with Läderach chocolates, whereupon Benedict remarked with a smile: “Oh, that’s the Mercedes of chocolates, thank you very much.”
