10 Motorcycles for Pastoral Work in the Congo

The Diocese of Boma in the Democratic Republic of the Congo includes 47 parishes, 35 of which are in remote, rural areas. The priests minister to the faithful with joy and great zeal, but the distances are daunting, the roads are poor, and some priests walk up to 25 miles to reach the people who need them.

10 Motorcycles for Pastoral Work in the Congo

And so the bishop of Boma asked for our help, to provide 10 small motorcycles for the priests who work in the most remote parts of the diocese. The diocese is aiming for a policy of “pastoral closeness,” meaning that the priests must visit the villages as often as possible and minister as intensively to the faithful. This policy also involves establishing new parishes, which will reduce the number of long journeys.

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we were able to contribute $27,183, and 10 motorcycles were purchased and blessed. Writing on behalf of the priests, Father Landry Dinandi said, “We want to say a heartfelt thank you to ACN’s benefactors and to assure you of our humble prayers. May the Lord bless you richly for your support and your interest in the success of our diocese.“
