Two Motorcycles for a Pre-Seminary in the Congo

The propedeutic, or pre-seminary, in the Diocese of Kasongo is on the eastern side of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where the population has a Muslim majority, unlike in other parts of the country. The seminary was founded in 1936 and soon took in candidates from other dioceses. They would study there for two years, preparing for their entry into the major seminary. There is space for 60 young men altogether.

But the seminary is facing a major problem: it urgently needs a form of transportation. The current lack of it means that there are long delays, which causes chaos in the educational timetable, and expensive cab trips for errands and doctor’s appointments. For example, when the water supply runs low, extra water is brought in from another source, some three miles away. And public transport in the region, where there are numerous armed groups, is by no means safe.

We are offering to help the pre-seminary with two motorcycles. They will cost a total of $8,900. When you help us?
