Support for Missionary Sisters in Cuba
The Missionaries of Jesus, Word and Victim are religious sisters whose special vocation is to work in poor, remote, and difficult regions with few or no priests. Their congregation was founded in Peru in 1961 and is now present in seven different countries in Latin America, including Cuba. As part of their ministry, the sisters pray with the faithful, comfort the sick and dying, baptize children, conduct funerals and liturgies, and give catechetical instruction. They also offer practical help to the people. And all this beautiful and devoted service is nourished by a profound life of contemplative prayer.

Since 2015, the congregation in Cuba has been located in Guasimal, in the Diocese of Santa Clara, where there are over 27,000 Catholic faithful for every single priest. From this center, the four sisters somehow manage to minister to about 9,000 people in eight parishes.
It is an extremely poor area. Most people support themselves through fishing, working the land, or rearing small livestock. Yet, Sister Veronica tells us, “despite everything they go through, they are very friendly and cheerful people. They have a deep desire to experience God’s merciful love and truly know the God who always was, and always is, so close to them. Our hope rests in the children, and even though we sometimes have to swim against the stream, we fix our gaze on our crucified Lord and ask Him for the grace and strength to continue this beautiful work.”
But the sisters have no external income, so they are entirely dependent on our help. We would like to give them a total of 4,316 dollars for the coming year.
